Here we are again with the Movement Medicine newsletter, returning from the summer break, sharing personal stories, projects and experiences. Of Dartmoor, the Amazon and “Torch Songs”

On my 53rd birthday, on July 18th I went to spend a night up on the hill on whose flanks we live. The sun set over Dartmoor in a deepening blue sky to the west, as the moon rose over the sea in the east. The light of the moon accompanied me all night as I saw in the landscape below me a mirror of the life I have led up to now and the possibilities of the time that is to come before my river runs into the sea. My recurring feeling and prayer was one of immense gratitude. more>
The Beginnings of Elder Hood

We are back teaching again after a creative summer together at home. For the first time in our new home, we ate mostly from our own garden throughout the summer and we so enjoyed being at home, looking after our land and being fed by it. After a short rest at the beginning of the summer, Susannah set to work on her album Torch Songs and me on my new book, Jaguar in the Body, Butterfly in the Heart – The 21st Century Initiation of an Everyday Shaman. more>

Our Missing

‘Our Missing’ is a piece of music I wrote about the disappearance of 43 students in Mexico on the night of September 26th 2014. This, and a shorter remixed version, are available to download from the new Music Medicine website (, with all profits going to support the teacher training school that the missing students attended. I was travelling in Mexico in the autumn of 2014 when I encountered a large demonstration in the streets of Oaxaca. People were powerfully and peacefully protesting the recent forced disappearance of 43 indigenous students of the Rural Teachers Training School, ‘Raul Isidro Burgos’ in Ayotzinapa. more>
