What a Long Dance!
By Susannah and Ya'Acov
Susannah says: “What a Long Dance. I bow to Ya'Acov's Long Dance vision which came to him so many years ago and which has been so deeply tended by himself and so many others until it has grown to this level of maturity. “What a Long Dance. I bow to Ya'Acov's Long Dance vision which came to him so many years ago and which has been so deeply tended by himself and so many others until it has grown to this level of maturity.

I bow to everyone who participated with such depth and maturity, discipline, generosity, humour and courage, as we took off the masks and the armour and entered such a deeply healing space, together. I bow to the families who were there and who blessed us with the innocent, soft presence of their children. I bow to Manari and Belen and their beautiful child Tsamaraw. The presence of this family was a blessing, an empowerment and a catalyst for (even more) awareness of the world and of the forests and the indigenous peoples. Through their reflection of what happened last year after the Long Dance they let us know more about the power of our embodied prayers. We were not there on holiday. These were holy-days. Our thoughts, our intention, our focus and our devotion matter. Our prayers matter: both through their energy and through their manifestation in action (e.g. fund-raising).

And in the middle of all that, held by that power of intention, everyone can receive healing. I did. And I am very, very grateful, personally as well as on the bigger scale.

We are very proud and happy, that as well as all the personal healings that happened, we raised, between us, nearly £100,000 for charities world-wide, including over £38,000 for the Pachamama Alliance. Wow! A mega thank you to all who supported the Long Dancers to raise this money. You are part of this! THANK YOU!!!!! May what you gave and your participation from afar bless your life and your steps towards living who you really are.

And the toilets remained clean through-out. When crystalline prayer and vision is matched by taking care of the basics, and by love in tangible action in the tent (local) and in the wider world (global) then we are beginning to fulfil the "as above, so below" intention of this work. We are beginning to land the prayer of movement medicine as joyous service, inter-connecting the spirit world and the material world, in a hoop of continual mutual giving and receiving, interconnecting the health of the individual and the whole. Thank you everyone! Congratulations! May all that you gave return to bless you 1000 fold, and may all that received be nurtured in the small steps of your life. I know my life will never be the same again.

A huge thank you to all the people who brought so much professional support to the Long Dance and gave away so freely and generously in so many ways. You know who you are. RESPECT.

All love to the Long Dancers of 2019, and to all who supported them, and to all our relations. If you want to add a donation to the Pachamama Alliance in the name of the Long Dance, and u0 our grand total some more, please do! Click here (link below!) Thank you! Susannah Darling Khan

Ya’Acov says:

“Dear All,

We are back from this year's Movement Medicine Summer Long Dance, a 72 hour contemporary shamanic journey, that we have developing over the past 20+ years.

The intention of the ritual is to connect to and embody our own spirit, our own divinity, the essential nature of the intelligence of the universe in human form. And through that, to life up a powerful prayer to say thank you for this opportunity called life in a body on earth.

The ceremony is designed to have concrete impact out in the world through the power of prayer and congruent action. As above, so below. And so, for the past ten years, the ceremony has been raising funds for an extraordinary range of life-enhancing, consciousness creating, suffering reducing projects world wide.

This year, the ceremony has raised over £100,000 including £38,000 for the Pachamama Alliance and £17,500 for the Movement medicine Sponsorship fund. This brings the total we have raised over the years, to over £500,000. Well done to EVERYBODY who danced, supported, organised, led, followed and prayed so deeply. May all your efforts bring you and your loved ones blessings untold.

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO DONATE - IF YOU FEEL INSPIRED TO PROTECT THE AMAZON THROUGH A HIGH INTEGRTITY ORGANISATION, HERE'S THE LINK TO DONATE:

We were also honoured once again to host Manari Ushigua and his lady Belen, and their son, Tsamaraw our dear family from the Sapara peoples of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Manari is a tribal leader and a shaman and Belen is a powerful activist on behalf of the forest and its peoples. To have them at our side, as we are at theirs, is a great privilege.

He told us that when he returned from last year's ceremony to his village and his people, the Chinese oil company that had been planning to desecrate their land in search of oil, had decided to withdraw since they realised that the bead publicity from the genocide of the people and ecocide of the biodiversity that is there would be bad publicity. Manari encouraged us all not to doubt the power of our dreaming and our embodied prayer. To have his extraordinary woman, Belen, a total force for the forest in her own right, at his side, was very beautiful, and to have their young son present completed the picture.

There is so much to say about the Long Dance and why it is the crown of our work each year and the essence of what Movement Medicine practice is all about.

I wish to publicly honour Susannah's extraordinary commitment over so many years to this ceremony and to her massively important co-leadership in so many ways. The music that she conducted and pulled through us was magnificent. Her prayer is unyielding. Her strength is an inspiration to so many and her super tender and gentle heart which is totally dedicated to life is a rare flower indeed. Thank you, Susannah, on behalf of us all.

For us, to have our own son, Reuben, and his dear brother Jonas, present with us, making their offering, made this year's Long Dance even that much more special.

We are going off-line now for our summer break. I will be editing my new book "Shaman -Opening the door between the Worlds" (due to be published by Hay House in March 2020) and resting at home with the marvellous Movement Medicine Woman and music mistress who I am blessed to be married to for all eternity, Susannah. Good food from the garden, deep rest, time together, and the ongoing prayer of our lives is the nourishment and the well that feeds the source of our work.

I bow in all directions to you, yes you, as you are, the one you are, and I encourage us all to stand up inside ourselves and to stand up for life. Nothing is over, or even nearly over. Change is always present. And how this life evolves is up to each and every one of us. This ceremony was so strong and we are noticing that we are asked to up our game to another level in response to the power of the prayer we lifted up together.
Wishing you all a glorious summer. And see you on the other side.

It's all about learning to tolerate the ferocity and unbearable lightness of touch that is the mystery of this life in physical form on earth. While we can, let's breathe, let's dance, let's live well, let's dream of evolution, let's create, let's act. Let's be who we are.

For ALL Our Relations.

Ya'Acov's Podcast
For this month’s newsletter Ya’Acov has recorded a podcast for you to listen to. He recorded it at Summer Solstice, the zenith of this time that is so full of life, and really enjoyed this way of connecting with you. We hope that, when you have 25 minutes to spare, you will enjoy and be nourished by what he’s shared too.

Given he recorded the podcast just before the Long Dance, he speaks of that as something to come. But, given the fullness of preparing for that particular event, we are getting the newsletter to you a little later than we had expected. So, by the time you receive this, the Long Dance will be complete for this year, the particular constellation of people who took part will have dispersed, and it’s many gifts will already be beginning to land and grow in the wider world.

Here’s the link to Ya’Acov’s podcast. https://soundcloud.com/movement-medicine/yaacovs-podcast-summer-solstice-2019

Enjoy!

Susannah's Journey
By Susannah
Dear all, As I write this it is mid-summer solstice and we are in the middle of 6 Graduation panels. A graduation panel is the deep meeting of seeing, challenge and support that we enter into with all our Movement Medicine professionals who get to the stage of Graduation. We do not make this process easy.

They have all committed to a high level of self-reflection, ongoing learning, supervision and written work to get to this point. And I am very proud of what I see: the flourishing of these individuals and their gifts for and as part of this world. And I see and celebrate the evolution of Movement Medicine within diverse contexts, with a consistent standard of good leadership that embraces a depth of service, self-care and self-responsibility. The more I learn, the more I love Movement Medicine; its basis and also how it is growing and evolving, held in the hands of many including ourselves.

I am going on growing into this new phase of my life with great joy. Staying home more, falling ever deeper in love with my incredible man. I am so grateful for what is flowering between us. Watch out for Mr and Mrs Darling Khan(!)

And I am falling into love with this land; what an astonishing privilege to be in a mutually beneficial relationship with the flowering of this piece of earth.

I am loving researching and writing my book about the science and experience of Movement Medicine. I’m being touched and inspired by learning more about our nervous systems and the polyvagal theory in theory and practice; with myself, with the people I work with and with my mirror-master Exmoor ponies. This information makes an astonishingly profound difference to almost everything. It’s affecting how I teach, and the results of that, how I work with my ponies, how I meet people, how I understand what is happening. I’m excited to go on sharing this and how it fits with Movement Medicine and can enhance it further, in my book, in my workshops and in CPD with our wonderful Movement Medicine professionals.

I am committed to sharing and passing on what I have learnt (and what I am learning) in the service of life on earth at the same time as receiving and relishing the life I live in its full beauty and depth. As I get older and begin, more clearly, to see my own death on the horizon, I recognise on another level the poignant miracle of life itself. And on a collective level too, this poignancy is there with climate change and bio-diversity loss and the great unknown and challenge we have chosen for ourselves and this planet as a species. I offer my love and my work as support for people to wake up (gently and as fast as is possible) into feeling it; the love and the loss, the beauty and the pain, so that we can take effective action, together. I think “together” is the operative word. Which does not mean in conformity, but as individuals, together.

Our offering is evolving and you will hear more from us soon about our online offerings, as we seek to make these transformative teachings accessible to a wider audience, and to support the integration of those who come to workshops.

After this next Apprenticeship (AP7), we are passing the baton of Movement Medicine Apprenticeships over to a new generation of teachers. We remain committed to our Apprentices and to the growing of Movement Medicine professionals and will continue to run Apprenticeship gatherings, electives, CPD modules and Movement Medicine Professional Trainings.

And, I have a request for my book! If you have any personal experience to share about how learning about and practicing interception has affected you and your life, please write to me via Roland. Short is good, maximum 400 words. If you can supply your name, profession and age, and what your experience of Movement Medicine is (or wherever you learnt about interoception) that would be wonderful. Thank you!

If you wish to see my latest webinar that is a movement based enquiry into a how it is to be alive right now, in this moment of (amongst many other things) Extinction Rebellion, Great Thunberg, David Attenborough and climate change awakening, you will need to sign up for the webinar series.  There is a great offer on for these till the end of July. Please go to: https://www.schoolofmovementmedicine.com/workshops/classes-online/bringing-the-dance-back-home-webinar/

And, if you have not yet seen this; you might enjoy! https://www.darlingkhan.com

At Close Quaters with the Earth
By Sophie Rieu
I recently spent the night in a grave of my own making as part of the Power Stories, Burial Ritual elective, masterfully led by Ya’Acov Darling Khan and his great team of assistants. I thought I’d share this poem which came to me in parts one beautiful night in May, near Orval, Belgium, “at close quarters with the Earth”. This was easily one of the most unforgettable, empowering and powerful experiences of my life.

The Earth is a Healer

Tears are oozing from the Earth at night

Little droplets, pearls or diamonds

Perched on tiny stems or are they roots

Protruding off the clay walls of my tomb

Or is it my womb?

And I cry too

My heart reveals

Echoing beats and nervous vibrations

As if enflamed by desires too restricted

By my shallow breathing

The subtle declensions of living and dying side by side,

My belly’s spasms and my gut speaks in tongues

Who knows what is actually happening?

Then my spleen, stomach and left hip enter the dance

The Earth is a healer

Is she showing me her pain?

That is mine too

Her breath my breath as we both listen and express

expand and contract

inhale and exhale

The dance of the serpent

The curling and uncurling

Shallow breathing gets deeper

Held in the cusp of Earth’s hands

This sensuous intimacy creates a new universe

At close quarters with my home planet

Every time I close my eyes

Colours, flowers, animals pop up to play

Daisies, buttercups, in clusters of white and yellow

Plenty of greens too, trees

One, a cedar I think, with a majestic trunk and an opening at its base

It looks like a house

Some birds, puffins, gannets

No eagles this time

A painting of green on red, with auburn curves

I open my eyes and see

An onyx-like luminous insect that retrieves and stretches its legs

When my finger brushes past

Funny-looking kindness and a smile

To recognise

Another shimmering ally for the night

I and the Earth are the story now

I do not have to believe

I am real; really here

The Earth and I are interwoven

How else could we be?

I am listening

Falling in love

This vertiginous love

I surrender to my soul stream

Such precious closeness with this living, and dying, fabric

My being, never felt so beautifully, so simply held by the Earth

Such a tender core, such a delicate ore

From the exquisite stillness of whispering waters emerges

The slow softness of a primal embryonic force

The soul, the oneness is all that matters now

The Fierceness of the Mother/What the Earth Needs Now
On July 19th 2019 at 8pm UK time (3pm New York time ) you can hear Susannah speak live in dialogue with Jocelyn Mercado as part of the free online event The Fierceness of the Mother: The Power of the Feminine to Revolutionize Our World. In case you can’t make that time, it is also possible to listen to the recording later.

There are fourteen presenters (seven men and seven women) taking part in this global online conference taking place between 15th and 19th July 2019, each exploring the theme of feminine ways of knowing from different angles including indigenous perspectives.

The Fierceness of the Mother is hosted by Jocelyn Mercado. Here is more about it in her own words:

If you are longing to restore the sacredness of the ancient ways of being & knowing in our world, I’m so excited to invite you to a very special online conference in which we’ll explore the power of the feminine to revolutionize our world.

When we return to the ancient feminine wisdom, which is based in compassion, visionary abilities, love, empathy, connection, and sacred reciprocity …

Then we can heal both Masculine and Feminine and bring our world back into balance.

Through exploring & excavating these topics, we will together experience & integrate profound ways to re-establish the ancient reciprocal connection with ourselves, with our fellow humans, with the animals & plants, with the Spirit world, and with our beautiful Earth.

Click here to learn more & register.

Susannah writes:

“I welcome you to share a deep, live discussion between myself and Jocelyn Mercado around the theme of the sacred feminine and what is needed in these times.

We will be speaking about “A radical dance of balance: from war to peace”.  Jocelyn and I will speak about the dangers of seeing it all in terms of "the sacred feminine needing to work on the distorted masculine”. I will propose something I calls "a radical dance of balance” which invites us to acknowledge the distortions in both the feminine as well as masculine and sees that the true masculine as well the true feminine need upholding. Knowing myself, and having a good sense of Jocelyn, I expect this will be an exchange of deep listening to each other and the depths that these themes can take us to.”

Looking further ahead, Ya’Acov will be taking part in another Jocelyn Mercado event, What the Earth Needs Now, from 16 to 20 September 2019. The best way to find out more about that will be via her Sacred Planet website here.
