Chair's update
-

I’m pleased to be introducing our first newsletter since we became an official body on 1 April 2013.

NHS Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group is committed to improving the health of people living in Gateshead. We will be working with a range of organisations and local people to plan and deliver high quality health services to meet the needs of all of our communities.

The first couple of weeks have been a little hectic, as we have been working on our plans for the future and our commissioning priorities.  I’m also pleased to announce that the Trinity Square NHS Health Centre opened on 15 April 2013 – there’s more information later in this bulletin. We will be telling you about other projects and commissioning priorities as they are developed.  We are planning on sending you this bulletin every three months.

Dr Mark Dornan
Chair, NHS Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group

We are very pleased to announce that Trinity Square NHS Health Centre opened its doors at Gateshead’s new £150m town centre development on Monday 15th April.

Our £3m health centre forms part of a wider development by Spenhill, the regeneration subsidiary of Tesco, to transform Gateshead centre.

  -

The health centre will welcome approximately 50,000 people every year and be staffed by 100 NHS professionals.

Two relocated GP practices providing family health services, Bridges Medical Practice and Millennium Family Practice, will be based at the new centre.  They will be joined in a few weeks by x-ray services, available on referral by a healthcare professional and a sexual health service.

We are really pleased with our new modern centre. It will be at the heart of Gateshead community, easily accessible by public transport routes and link a number of NHS services under one roof.

Trinity Square NHS Health Centre is perfectly positioned to cater for the new student population and in close proximity to the refurbished Gateshead Health Centre so that the centre of Gateshead can offer more localised healthcare support.

South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust will provide the services in the Sexual Health Clinic at Trinity Square.  The service is being relocated from Bensham Hospital and is an integrated sexual health service which offers contraception, testing for sexually transmitted infections, treatment and/or follow ups.  The clinics will provide free, confidential advice, including free condoms and pregnancy testing. Some clinics will be open to young people under 25 years only.  All clinics offer a drop in service so no appointment is needed.

We have been working with Healthwatch Gateshead closely and they officially launched on 1 April 2013 to give users of health and social care services a powerful voice, both locally and nationally. They are a dedicated consumer champion, working with us, users of local NHS, and social care services to hear about their experiences, identify any issues or problems and help generate improvements. The host of Healthwatch Gateshead is the Carers Federation.
